ABSTRACT

THE SAMPLES OF OFFSPRING AND COMPARISON YOUNG ADULTS RECRUITED FOR THE PRESENT RESEARCH

On the whole, the methods of recruitment used in the present research can be judged successful. Once helpful sources of participants were identified, it required only time (about two and a half years) and patience to recruit a good sized sample of both young men and women, spread across the age group 16-35 years as intended, and recruited from a variety of different sources. It was reassuring to find that neither age, nor sex, nor recruitment source-whether health, social, penal, or self-help agency on the one hand, or public advertising on the other-was significantly associated with any of the quantified variables concerning parental drinking history which were examined in Chapter 4.
