ABSTRACT

Many of the chapters in this book represent significant revisions from earlier ones that appeared in my 1991 book Psychoanalytic Theory and the Rorschach. That is not the case regarding this chapter on sequence analysis. That this chapter remains almost the same speaks directly to the degree to which this area of Rorschach inquiry has been neglected in the Rorschach literature. Virtually all Rorschach theorists agree that sequence is a meaningful source of information, however, few have provided a systematic and comprehensive way of conceptualizing or using it. Sequence does not lend itself to the careful analysis that the scores do, nor is it as compelling as content.
