ABSTRACT

In the preface to my 1991 book Psychoanalytic Theory and the Rorschach’ I noted with pleasure the significant resurgence of interest in and use of the Rorschach for the understanding of people. I suggested that the revival of Rorschach’s test was prompted by two forces—the empirical work of John Exner and the development of the Comprehensive System and the important shifts and developments that were occurring in psychoanalytic theory. Although different in important ways, the Rorschach approaches that arose from each force represented a different side of Rorschach’s original vision.
