ABSTRACT

We gave accounts (in Chapters 4 to 7) of the duties and responsibilities of the 12 area electricity boards in England and Wales in managing relationships with their 20 000 000 customers during the strikes of the 1970s. In those strikes the result of the industrial action either of some power station staff or of the miners was to reduce electricity generation and supply to a point at which, from time to time, it had to be rationed. The boards’ rota disconnection plans were explained in Chapter 5.
