ABSTRACT

This chapter describes anger as a very powerful emotion that can easily get out of control, leading to very poor decisions being made. It suggests that toys, activities, colouring in, are ready so a student can walk in and get to these easily. The first rule when counselling for anger is to not attempt any counselling when a student is angry; when a person is angry they do not listen, nor really have control of their emotions, so let the person calm down first. A common mistake many teachers make in classroom practice is to attempt to counsel or even talk to a student when they are in a fit of rage. Anger creates great energy and this can be harnessed in sport. Learning the rules of games and sticking to them helps, as many boys fight over rules leading to anger outbursts.
