ABSTRACT

A theatrical supplier may have a specific product which they call trick line. Some places consider trick line and tie line to be interchangeable. Many tricks can be accomplished by removing a pin which is holding or supporting something and allowing gravity to take over. The pins can be attached to trick line to allow an offstage crew member to pull them. Multiple trick lines can be run offstage to a single location for a choreographed scene of property destruction. One of the most iconic gravity tricks in theatre is the kabuki drop. A kabuki drop is a thin, lightweight drop automatically released from above the stage. It can be either a curtain which appears from nowhere, unfurling from the sky or it can be a hanging curtain which is released and flutters to the ground.
