ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a module that provides strategies to empower students to develop good peer relationships. The contents are channelized towards describing the unique strengths and positive attributes of others, evaluating the role of students within the class or peer group and demonstrating empathy, tolerance and understanding of other people. Supporting collaborative work, embedding friendship and relational skills in the curriculum, developing peer support and mentor programs, offering opportunities for inclusive clubs and groups, and equipping parents and teachers with strategies to navigate peer conflict when it arises, all contributes to the successful connection with peers. This module aims to empower students with strategies to understand and value others and develop skills for relating well with peers. The activities provide a fun way to encourage students to discover the unique attributes of their friends and peers, and help them to consider the contributions that they and others bring to their own social world.
