ABSTRACT

Latin America has a rich and very diverse history of indigenous cultures including European colonization, African slavery, and global immigration. This chapter introduces Latin America as an important region of the world. As aforementioned, over 600 million people live in this area of the world, and accounts for an enormous amount of purchasing, economic, and political power. Globalization has had a major impact on the economic transformation of Latin America. By and large, globalization can be both good and bad for a country or region. Investors or business people looking to expand or invest in Latin America and benefit from the vast economic opportunities the region offers, must be sure about the risks, threats, and challenges that exist in the entire ecosystem the environment presents. The chapter also presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book.
