ABSTRACT

The stepwise-deductive inductive (SDI) approach is a viable model for the whole of the qualitative research process. In short, the SDI model has curiosity as its genesis and generalizable understanding as its goal. The SDI model's description of qualitative research as stepwise underlines the systematic design of the research. The research tradition termed Grounded Theory involves an ideal of a theory-free basis for qualitative research, with a strategy in which theoretical development is based on a systematic iteration between data generation and conceptual development. The interpretation of the results, however, will be dependent on the type of theories and perspectives used by the researcher. The growth of the Internet and the enormously increased use of various forms of electronic communication have provided social researchers with a new arena for research. The role of theory varies enormously from one piece of research work to another, within both qualitative and quantitative research.
