ABSTRACT

To review the main point of this book, I have shown, above all, that CBE research and development has been, and continues to be, fundamentally, a research enterprise of computer scientists, systems engineers and experimental psychologists, supported primarily by the military. The focus of such research is the 'human factor' in technological systems, and its objective is the further development of sophisticated man-machine systems. This concluding chapter provides an opportunity for personal reflection on some of the implications of these findings.
