ABSTRACT

The 4th of July, 1825, was celebrated on Clay Island, in the Yohogany River, by the brigade of engineers, under the charge of James Shriver, Esq., to survey the route of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, and the neighboring citizens of Smithfield, etc. It was a large party, and the affair was conducted in a very handsome style.
