ABSTRACT

Contra Marx, religion did not wither away under communism. Despite the claims of Weber, religion did not disappear as scientific advances ushered in demystification of the world. True, the materialistic orientation of communism has left deep footprints on some countries: notably contemporary China; less so Russia, where the Russian Orthodox faith has grown in the aftermath of the disintegration of one-party Soviet Union Communist Party rule, ushering in the complete collapse of the Soviet state during the late 1980s and 1990s.
