ABSTRACT

Chapter 1 looks at the ‘motherships’ of the Walking Dead world: the comic book series, the main television series, and the companion television series Fear the Walking Dead. In aiming to make sense of the so-called ‘comic-verse’ and the ‘show-verse,’ exploring new ways of thinking about how these two self-sufficient pieces of The Walking Dead universe operate together, this chapter demonstrates the value of adopting a historiographical approach to the study of imaginary worlds, drawing on debates from history, philosophy, and literary criticism to explore how this world’s portrayal of history shapes its world-building.
