ABSTRACT
The crucial recommendation of the Plowden Report was that schools needed to make themselves more accessible to parents. Only when barriers between teachers and parents had been overcome would it be possible to achieve better educational results for all children. One way of breaking down barriers was through the work of parent-teacher associations. The Plowden Report (1967) suggested other ways, too, including meetings for new parents, meetings to discuss children's progress and home visits.
