ABSTRACT

This chapter summarizes and compares the findings of the empirical analysis in the light of the conceptual framework developed in this book. It draws together the empirical analysis contained in the earlier chapters to provide a nuanced understanding of the reasons behind the prolonged impasse situation in EPA negotiations. Moreover, it addresses the implications for theories of international cooperation within the discipline of international relations and directions for further research. I call for a pragmatic approach that views both rationalist and constructivist traditions as complementary or overlapping analytical tools. Lastly, the conclusion develops tentative policy implications for the follow-up process of Economic Partnership Agreements negotiations as well as North – South free trade agreements more generally.
