ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the key ideas of this book: how the brain creates the world we experience and how can we use that knowledge to help ourselves and our clients to learn, change and be happier.

It gives an overview of the structure of the brain and how it works and how it is embodied.

The brain is also put in a social context. Some myths about the brain are dispelled.

Cognitive neuroscience and coaching are defined and explained.

A number of metaphors for the brain are explored, including the brain as a team, the parts sometimes cooperating, sometimes disagreeing.
