ABSTRACT

Chapter One is largely based upon al-Qaraḍāwi’s memoirs. It describes the formation of al-Qaraḍāwi’s approach to the Palestinian issue based on his experiences during his youth in Egypt in the shadow of the War of 1948. His religious education and the preaching of his admired teacher – Hassan al-Bana – on the struggle in Palestine, made a lasting impression upon him. His memories and his visits to Palestine evoke powerful emotions that motivate him today in his spiritual leadership.
