ABSTRACT

Chapter Four treats al-Qaraḍāwi’s thoughts on Zionism and the State of Israel. Al-Qaraḍāwi devotes much attention to the teaching of rabbis and thinkers of the Zionist movement from the point of view of “know your enemy.” His writing is ambivalent and veers from rejection and abhorrence to admiration. On the one hand, Israel represents the West and its flawed values and is responsible for worldwide conspiracies against Muslims. On the other hand, al-Qaraḍāwi does not hesitate to criticize the Muslim world for its failures as opposed to the successes of Israel. Israel may be the enemy, but it is a model worthy of imitation.
