ABSTRACT
This chapter addresses the intent of the standard clause by clause and provides a meaningful interpretation of each of the clauses. There are many tools and techniques to improve controls of the process and a whole series of approaches to teamwork and improvement issues to develop people skills. International Standards Organization (ISO) 9000 helps to provide the infrastructure for the systems side of total quality management and, in more general terms, a system of quality. In deciding on the method of application of ISO 9000 to a company, it is important for the organization to consider the specific requirements placed on the organization related to regulated industries and to understand the specific jargon of the standards. The system requirement standard ISO 9001, ISO 9002, and ISO 9003 are written in mandatory language that allows the documents to be used in contract conditions. The emphasis of the international standard is on the management of quality systems.
