ABSTRACT

Within an organization there are many strategic and operational activities that can act against the successful implementation of the most basic of EMSs. The identification of key organizational barriers may assist management in allocating scarce resources more effectively. It is incumbent upon management to investigate emerging organizational responses to environmental management system (EMS) and the extent to which the responses facilitate or impede the implementation of an environmental management system. Organizations that are similar in many ways respond in often radically different ways when it comes to environmental management and practices. The role of environmental policy to show employees that the organization desires environmental ideas or actions, but that this needs to be supported by direct encouragement from supervisors and managers. Research and development is the primary focus of government support in industrial and innovation policy. The main difficulty for managers is that one size does not fit all when it comes to implementing a successful system.
