ABSTRACT

Supervision may take place in an educational clinic, agency setting, or private office. It may take place in a room, over a telephone, or using the Internet. It may be a written interchange (real-time messaging or email). It also might be a face-to-face interchange in the same location or at a distance (SKYPE; I-Chat). Each of these formats has its own logistical, ethical, administrative, and legal concerns. These will be explored below. However, fundamentally, they all are manifestations of two formats: dyadic and group supervision, and two methods: namely, live supervision versus retrospective consideration of recorded live data or case presentations. This fundamental typology will be considered first.
