ABSTRACT

The work on the subject of sexuality was conceived as an extension to the genealogy of discipline and control in society. Foucault’s main aim was to problematise the concept of sexuality as it appeared in the nineteenth century. Sexuality, for Foucault, neededs to be reviewed critically in parallel with other phenomena of the time such as the emerging distinction between the fields of knowledge and the establishment of norms that led to the transformations of mentalities and manners in which individuals evaluate their conduct.
