ABSTRACT

Pat is a designer looking for a tool to use for short periods of time throughout the day to spark some creative energy. His idea is to have something akin to a set of children’s building blocks. It would be a kind of toy that would allow him to explore 3D forms, or to simply take a break from work while still flexing some creative muscle. Pat doesn’t want something that behaves exactly like blocks. Instead, his desire is for something more game-like that would be simple to use, but produce somewhat unpredictable results. He feels like a playful, unpredictable design game could offer him a tool for getting ‘unstuck’ when encountering creative roadblocks. Your job in this chapter is to create a design game for Pat that fits these requirements.
