ABSTRACT

The operative words here are employee and all. The coach’s job is to facilitate his input. The coach’s job is to facilitate by asking questions and to ensure the employee identifies everything that could go wrong. The only way he can identify what can go wrong is to think about it. This is an exhaustive process but it is critical to the success of the coaching process. The coach can also ask the employee to identify all the reasons he has used in the past when he did not succeed nor do his best. When the employee has identified everything that could go wrong and has also developed his own contingencies, then the coach and the employee are both focused on results and have eliminated the need for excuses.
