ABSTRACT

The characters who appear in our dreams are of the nature of subpersonalities within us. We create them, and they perform on our stage. Sometimes the importance of these dream characters is more obvious to other people than it is to us ourselves. For example, one man had several dreams in which a character came up who was always postponing things and then doing them very slowly and with great difficulty. He began to call this character 'Slowcoach', and talked about it with his wife. And now whenever his wife finds her husband procrastinating over a decision, she asks, 'Is it really a difficult decision requiring lots of thought, or is it old "Slowcoach" up to his tricks again?' And this often seems to clarify the matter in a useful way.
