ABSTRACT
Let us now look at the fifth origin of subpersonalities. Here we leave the personal unconscious and come on to the cultural unconscious. This is something shared by all those who share in a common culture. The common culture we all share today, in every developed country in the world (in virtually all the less developed countries too) has been named as patriarchy — that is, a hierarchical arrangement dominated by men. This is an oppressive system based upon domination of the weaker by the stronger. The basic outline of this arrangement has been clearly set out in the diagram from Elizabeth Dodson Gray.
