ABSTRACT

One of the most important and most disputed constitutional cases of the past fifty years is Roe v. Wade, the landmark decision that ended the legal restriction of abortion in the United States. At the time of Roe in 1973, abortion was illegal in most states, with a few exceptions such as New York, Alaska, Hawaii, and Washington. Overturning those laws placed abortion at the center of our legal and political battles of the last forty years.
