ABSTRACT

In the previous chapter I outlined three major dynamics through which social interactions, specifically political conversations about the EU, could shape people’s views on European integration. While the process of influence differs depending on the mechanism that is at play, the observable outcome is that discussing the EU with a pro-EU conversation partner is likely to lead one to also become a supporter of the EU. Similarly, discussing the EU with a Euroskeptic conversation partner is likely to transform a person into a Euroskeptic. In this chapter I test those propositions.
