Conclusions and future directions book
In this final chapter we wrap up the book by providing some thoughts on where we stand now in anomia research and where to go next. There is no question that our knowledge on the neurocognitive aspects of naming and its disorders has expanded strongly during the last decades. The research field continues to thrive, as attested by various healthy controversies concerning, for example, the dynamics of word production, the structure of semantic memory, and the choice of anomia treatment methods. Addressing issues such as these should help to move the field forward, providing deeper understanding of lexical production mechanisms, their disorders, diagnosis, and effective treatment.
