ABSTRACT

In the present chapter, the reader will find details of the method that was used in the research in Mexico City, South-West England and northern Australia: how family members were recruited to participate, how the interview was conducted and by whom, and how the results were analysed. Something of the social context of the lives of family members is also provided, including their material circumstances, which differed markedly from one socio-cultural group to another. This chapter concludes by noting some of the pitfalls of carrying out such cross-cultural research.
