ABSTRACT
A man falls into a river. He is about to drown. From both banks, heedless of their own danger, people jump into the water to save him. A man is grabbed from behind and thrown into the river. He is about to drown. People on both banks of the river look on with growing alarm at the desperate attempts of the drowning man to swim, and think 'if only he doesn't save himself on our shore'. 1
