ABSTRACT

Part B provides an overview of key aspects ot ocean process and change since the first record of oceans at c.3900 Ma, summarised in the table below. Part B is intended to demonstrate the range of controls on oceans, using landmark examples, and so is not exhaustive —several volumes are needed to describe all ocean change over geological time! The aim is to draw attention to the issues and discuss interpretations, to provide a balanced view of oceans in time as a backdrop to appreciating the nature of possible future change.
