ABSTRACT

Mentoring provides a specialized form of educational help for gifted pupils whose special educational needs cannot be met in school. This may be when the pupils need a broader and more advanced approach than the school can provide, in the identification of unrealized gifted potential, in realizing creativity in high-achieving school learners, helping those of high potential who are underachieving, those who have been accelerated in their education, and the encouragement of the lifelong continuation of gifts. Students in tertiary education are particularly suitable for this, particularly from the emotional point of view. Organizing mentoring calls for care in matching, timing, emotional concerns, communication and evaluation.
