ABSTRACT

Within a large school it is inevitable that there will be pupils who have concerns and problems. Many of these might be directly subject related and so a solution can be arrived at through help and support from the many curriculum systems within the school. Many may be related to problems of organization or relationships and in these cases often the solutions are achieved through the pastoral support systems. However, there may still be pupils who have concerns which, for one reason or another, they may not wish to bring to the attention of a teacher or a parent. In this context peers can be an enormous support and help but sometimes something else is needed. The Buddy system is another form of support that can perhaps reach those pupils who are unable or unwilling to use a more formalized system of support.
