ABSTRACT

Although the situation in international schools is better balanced than in national systems, women are, nonetheless, seriously under-represented in senior management. The European Council of International Schools (ECIS) Statistical Survey 1997 included, for the first time, data regarding the sex of both teachers and senior administrators: 'The survey showed that women accounted for 66% of all full-and part-time teaching posts and, of a total of 1,242 senior administrators, 43% were women. However, only 20% women held the most senior position in a school - that ofDirector/Head.'
