ABSTRACT
S112 Adoption and Children Act 2002 (A&CA 2002) as amended by the CPA 2004 inserts new s4A into CA 1989, providing that: ● the court can grant a step-parent or civil partner of a
natural parent parental responsibility; ● a parent married to the step-parent or in a civil
partnership can enter into a parental responsibility agreement with the step-parent/civil partner. If the other natural parent also has parental responsibility they must be a party to the agreement;
● in each of these cases the parental responsibility can be removed by the court.
