ABSTRACT

The focus of this chapter is the design of circulation spaces in buildings such as care homes and nursing homes. It illustrates another case in which the layout of the building, the surface finishes, the natural lighting and the electric lighting must be considered together. The chapter contains also a worked example on calculating daylight on the vertical face of a building. This calculation is not, of course, specific to care buildings but it is often necessary when buildings take the form of several blocks and when a new building is fitted into an urban site.
