ABSTRACT

Attie and Brooks-Gunn thus succinctly summarized the major points of a developmental psychopathology approach. One crucial component of their definition is the relation between normal growth and psychopathology. This relation is analogous to a highway with branching roads, some of which return to the highway, some of which go only to one place, several of which may lead to various places depending on where one turns off, and some of which share a common destination (Sroufe, 1989). In other words, there are multiple pathways from each point and multiple pathways to each point.
