ABSTRACT

Don’t get stung by teachers and schools lacking structure, discipline, and backbone that Barbara Coloroso (in Charles, 2005) likened to the floating invertebrates that have little control over their destinations. Jellyfish teachers tend to manage inconsistently, failing to provide the structure needed for students to learn responsible behavior. They often drift on low expectations and extremes—swinging from lax rules to harsh and inappropriate measures when students get out of control. Set your feet on solid ground; don’t be a jellyfish.
