ABSTRACT

The teachers’ lounge can be a positive or a negative place. What you say in this area and how you handle what you hear determine which it is. Be careful about what you share. Remember that you are a professional who is expected to be confidential regarding your students. For example, perhaps one of your students tells you that his parents had a big fight the previous night. Later in the teachers’ lounge, a colleague who does not have this child in class says to you: “I heard there was a big row at the Mitchell’s last night and the police were called. Did Johnny say anything?” How do you respond? The best answer is, “Sorry I don’t know anything.”
