ABSTRACT
Questions for which an answer is not truly intended are non-procedural questions. Such questions are ineffective and can even cause a classroom behavior problem. When you ask, “Is everybody ready?” as a signal to students that it’s time to leave for lunch, you invite feedback. Though you meant the question to be a rhetorical prompt with no response expected, the fact that it’s a question leaves it open.
