ABSTRACT

Lots of things besides play can happen on the playground—including injuries, emergencies, and discipline referrals. To be prepared for incidents and accidents, create a playground basket or bag to hold various emergency kit items, such as a water bottle (for rinsing a cut), bandages (for minor scrapes), office discipline referrals (in case of a fist fight), clinic passes (for the nurse’s office), a pad and pencil for notes, and an emergency form. When you take students to the playground, also take along your cell phone to gain prompt assistance in case of an accident. One item not to include is medication. You should not apply medication on a student following an injury as a precaution against an allergic reaction.
