ABSTRACT

Engage students, enhance their sense of belonging, streamline routines, and teach responsibility by setting up jobs in the classroom. Student jobs also can coordinate with your classroom economy. With “earnings” from their jobs, students can purchase items at the class store or auction. Post available positions and their pay rates, choosing age-appropriate responsibilities. Give older students a peek into adult life by having them fill out job applications that are rejected if they are messy, filled with spelling errors, or incomplete. Limit lengths of employment to allow students to try different duties.
