ABSTRACT

Accommodating students with special needs applies to classroom management as well as academics. Work closely with your building’s special education professionals and parents to develop the best behavior management plan for these students. The Individualized Education Program (IEP) should guide your efforts to help the child manage his or her behavior responsibly. You can expect children with behavior disorders to challenge you. Do not take this misbehavior personally; view their actions as inappropriate rather than seeing the students as difficult children. These children, whatever their challenges, deserve your respect and care. When these students act out, be patient with them and with yourself.
