ABSTRACT

Creating a plan for the inevitable student absences before they occur gets you ready and keeps students from missing a beat when they return to class. Have a set of absent folders in a predetermined location where returning students retrieve the homework and paperwork they missed. Or enlist classmates to help by placing the information in the folder or on the desk of an absent student while distributing assignments, worksheets, or notes. If age appropriate, you may ask a student to take notes and explain directions to the absent child to help keep him or her current. If you change classes during the day, have a file folder for each class period.
