ABSTRACT

Though lower elementary students may not have cell phones, the age at which children get mobile phones is getting increasingly younger. Be prepared before any cell phone incidents by establishing rules for them at the beginning of the year, especially if you plan to use them as learning tools. Follow and base your classroom rules on the school policy. School policies generally fall in these two categories:

Cell phones are banned on school property. If a student is caught with a cell phone, it becomes confiscated and the parent must come to pick it up.

Cell phones may be on school property, but may not be used or visible to other students.

What about your cell phone policy? Teachers should not use their cell phones in their classroom when students are present. Teaching is hard work and requires your focus at all times.
