ABSTRACT

No matter how well students behave in your classroom, they may take advantage of situations away from the room, such as during art, music, PE, or lunch. If the professional in charge leaves handling the behavior to the classroom teacher, consequences for the student’s actions are delayed, a less than ideal situation. Without recency—a connection between the time the misbehavior occurs and its consequence—students are less likely to connect the action and resulting consequence and more likely to repeat the behavior.
