ABSTRACT

Get students engaged and set the tone of the classroom for the day with a morning activity written on an overhead, blackboard, or easel near the door. Seeing a set task as they enter the classroom helps students quickly transition to the day’s agenda. Daily tasks work best when students can easily jump in and do the work in 5–10 minutes, without asking questions of you or their classmates. Vary lesson review worksheets, word problems, brief writing exercises, and daily language activities throughout the week. You also can warm up students’ brains with a puzzle or brainteaser.
