ABSTRACT

The teacher’s grade book is a legal document. As the legal record of a student’s academic history, it can be summoned in court cases. Consistently recording accurate grades is vital. You should know that at the end of each academic year, most schools require teachers to submit their grade books, which are then stored at the school for a length of time required by the state—generally one to five years. During the next school year, you may or may not have access to that grade book. Many schools require an electronic grading system, or you may create your own electronic records. If you develop your own, make sure that you always back up your computer and regularly run hard copies.
