ABSTRACT

Rising temperatures can easily lead to flaring tempers as students (and teachers) get overheated and crabby. Though you cannot control the weather, you can help control tempers. When you know the heat may be oppressive, plan activities that keep students calm and cool. Consider the following “cool” ideas:

Read an interesting book to students. Being read aloud to is great for all ages.

Play soothing music while students work on independent projects.

Engage students in cool experiments. For example, a science lesson in which students make homemade ice cream and discuss freezing point depression offers hands-on experience and a chance to cool off on a hot, steamy afternoon.
